About my work
My current work combines painting and sculpture in small figurative works that reference dreams, memories, and the environment. In my art I explore moments when we find ourselves at the edge of what is familiar and where our sense of self is challenged. I am fascinated with the balance between emotions that seem to contradict each other, but often come together, when we are unable or not ready to be one way or the other; to be both longing yet fearful, to be vulnerable or guarded, to look back or move forward. In these situations we can find ourselves in a kind of stasis - unable or unwilling to be decisive. These are often pivotal moments in our lives.
The works begin as assemblages where parts get interchanged and altered until the final form takes shape. I like working with a palette of components using the same figures in multiple pieces. Figures are initially sculpted for a particular context but also find places in other works. My process is always evolving as I discover new methods, materials, and collect more things to work with.
